Liver and Gastrointestinal Diseases Research Center (LGDRC) was founded in 2005 with the mission of producing of knowledge and technology to maintain and promote the health of society in hepatic-gastrointestinal diseases and cancers. LGDRC is the coordinator of AZAR Cohort study conducted on over 12,900 participants in East Azerbaijan province, Iran. Other main research studies include prospective and randomized clinical studies on gastrointestinal cancers, hepatitis (A, B and autoimmune), Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP), Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) and inflammatory bowel diseases. LGDRC has had successful collaboration and partnership with other universities and organizations in autoimmune hepatitis registry, population-based cancer registry, celiac registry and joint research projects with University of Groningen and in East Azerbaijan.
LGDRC consists of genetic research as well as biomedical analysis laboratories and holds PhD by Research courses.
The fields of research cooperation include:

  2. Nutrition and gastrointestinal diseases
  3. Inflammatory bowel disease
  4. Gastrointestinal cancers (Epideliology, Genetic, Epidegenetic and nutrition)
  5. Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP)
  6. Congenital gastrointestinal anomalies:
  7. Familial Mediterranean fever (FAP)
